State of Control

soc_logoAs we all gear up to meet in Orlando for InfoComm 2013, I wanted to take the next few weeks to introduce (or re-introduce) you to our various podcasts. At the end of these introductory blogs I will have an announcement about the future of AVNation. So, stay tuned.
AVNation has been producing podcasts for the AV industry since July of 2011. We are certainly not the first nor the last. Are we the best? That really is your call. There are a great number of folks who create some really great content for the industry. Tom Andry from AV Rant is on episode #324. He’s a great guy and has a wicked sense of humor. Sound and Video Contractor and Bennett Liles has been making podcasts for the AV industry since 2008. There are my good friends Bradford Benn and Matt Scott. Depending on who you believe, it is either the Matt & Bradford Show or the Bradford & Matt Show. Either way, it is a good listen. InfoComm International has a podcast called InfoComm Today that we are honored to produce. The TWiT Network has been producing Home Theater Geeks since 2009.
The first show I want to highlight is our newest; A State of Control. This show covers the control and automation part of the AV industry. I’m not aware of another show that focuses on this part, if there is I apologize for any slights. This is the first attempt at looking into the side that is both one of the most exciting as well as misunderstood parts of our industry. Control evokes so much emotion and opinion, it is a wonder we didn’t make one until now. My background as a Technology Manager gives me enough knowledge of control programming to be dangerous. I have been through both Extron and some Crestron control classes, so the questions aren’t from a complete luddite point of view.
The show is hosted by myself, Tim Albright, as well as Steve Greenblatt from Control Concepts. Steve is really the driving force and producer of the show. I just ask the questions and keep the show moving. Rich Fregosa and Mark LaVecchia are frequent guests. We have covered topics from what is a control system to who “owns” the control code. If you are in any way interested in the control and automation side of the AV industry, either residential or pro, it would be a good listen. These guys know their stuff and I try not to get in the way too much.
So, check out a State of Control if you would. Next week I’ll cover another AVNation show. Have a great week.
