InfoComm 2014 is open for business. Well, it’s one step closer; registration is now open. You can click here to go straight to their site and fill out all the pertinent information. The show floor will be open from June 18-20 at the fabulous Las Vegas Convention Center. The show will be the home to more than 900 companies from around the world, and around the AV industry.
Last year was the most attended InfoComm Show ever. Let’s make this year even bigger. So, why should you go? I’m glad you asked.
Four Reasons to Attend InfoComm 2014
The training actually begins June 14 and runs all the way through the show. If it concerns AV, you can learn about it. The pre-show days are filled with “boot camps” and Super Tuesday sessions. These are highly concentrated classes geared to fill as much information in your head as possible in a short amount of time. There are sessions for the beginner on up to the Jedi Masters of AV. Let’s face it, we can all learn something.
Last year one of our board members, AVDawn, did a class on marketing and social media. It was fantastic. If you missed it, she’s doing it again. Josh Srago is hosting a DSP class. Manufacturers will hold training there as well. If you walk out of Vegas as dumb as you walked in, it’s your own fault.
2) The Future of AV
There will be thousands of products on the show floor. Some you may never see again. That’s actually ok. It gives you a sense of where the industry is thinking. Where we are heading. You will see the latest that is ready to ship and some that is not quite ready for prime time. That is all a part of the beauty of InfoComm.
Part of where our industry makes it’s bones is getting people together remotely. VC is a great tool and a great product to sell and install. However, there is something to be said for meeting someone face to face or IRL (in real life). There will be the tech support, sales staff, and engineers from all your favorite companies. There will even be those there from companies you don’t like. This is your opportunity to get into the mind of these professionals, give them your ideas and hear where they are coming from. It is a great feeling to call up customer service and be able to recall the glory days of InfoComm meetings. It may not grease the rails that much more, but you will treat them more like a person, and get treated like one in return.
4) InfoComm’s Birthday
This is the 75th anniversary of InfoComm International. This would be one of those ultra-special years to be there. InfoComm is a great trade organization who tries to further the goals of the manufacturers, distributors, integrators, and technology managers. Go to the show, stop by their booth, have a cup of coffee. And tell them thanks for putting this on.
There are of course other reasons like Microsoft being there, the first line of AVB certified products, Crestron will have something fabulous and AVNation will be there. We may even have a party again. You’ll have to wait on that one.
So, click here, sign up, get your classes scheduled and catch a flight to Vegas. Hope to see you there.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Have a great week.
