There Is Room For Us All

This weekend I had the opportunity to mingle with some of the best podcasters in the business at the Podcast Movement 2015. These are professionals from all walks of life who do podcasting for the love of it; some do make a living off it full time or as part of their overall digital media strategy.
One of the speakers at this event was Lou Mongello. Lou, the host of a very popular Walt Disney World podcast called WDW Radio, spoke-*about the ten common questions he gets asked. Sprinkled throughout the talk he would relay questions reporters would ask him as well. The one that struck me was about his competition. When-*asked who his competition was his response was “I don’t have any.” It wasn’t an arrogant, ‘I’m better than everyone else’ statement, but rather a ‘no one does it quite like me’ one. Then he made the statement that resonated with me better than all the other talks – there is room for us all.
This is my mantra when it comes to media in general but specifically to the space that we at AVNation serve. This is why I love having reporters and hosts from different media on our shows. There really is room enough for us all. There are blogs, newsletters, and magazines that have been around much longer than AVNation. They do a great job of reporting on the news that matters to the industry. I don’t see them as competition. There are podcasts that have come out after AVNation started. I don’t see them as competition. Like Lou, it’s not with an arrogant state of mind, it’s the mindset that AVNation produces our podcasts and blogs in a certain way, with a certain voice. No one does what we do quite like we do it. We are not for everyone and that’s ok.
I encourage you to check out the links below. They are a list of podcasts that cover the audio visual industry in one way or another. If I’ve missed some, feel free to include them in the comments below. See if they resonate with you and where you are in your career.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Have a great week.
