Here we go, AV industry. Today is the first day of CEDIA Expo 2015. The questions of what we will experience over the next three days in Dallas have already begun to be bandied about. From speakers to displays and questions about certain connectors coming to the forefront, all are up for discussion. Here is what we have gathered from the first day of the show.
Networking Everything
There is hardly a box or solution on the floor that doesn’t have some form of RJ45 connector on the back. This goes from racks to lighting and everything in between. It’s not wonder, then, that some of the most forward thinking products were the networking teams. These products give integrators the power to remotely manage their clients’ networks and products. In addition, it gives them the power to setup home networks that are solid for Internet traffic but also allow for AV systems to run smoothly.
One of the more outstanding elements on the show floor was a 120-inch Vizio-*display. You read that right; 120 inches. That’s a ten foot diagonal display. It is a very nice picture and weighs in at 300 pounds. What is more interesting is the story of how it got into the PowerHouse Alliance booth. There are a number of dealers in the residential space that look at Vizi0-*as the one responsible for deleting the margins on displays. It was their race to the bottom that did them all in. An honest assessment would say that it was a combination of factors and Vizio-*did indeed contribute to it. In PowerHouse’s view, Visio is no innovating. They have the largest display on the market. Period. That right there is impressive. So, take a look and see if it makes sense for you.
There are more than one “whole house” audio systems. Time will tell whether they are the end of Sonos or simply offerings similar by long-established companies. For their part, Sonos is continuing to innovate and introduce different appliances for various spaces. Their booth is setup like a mini-home and they are demonstrating their use case in those spaces
It’s only day one at the show but already there have been a number of great discoveries. Day two will have AVNation recording AVWeek live from the show floor, our #AVTweeps Tweetup, and more. Stay tuned to this space to see a recap of what we discover and learn at CEDIA Expot 2015.
