Take Time, Take Care

You know what’s fun? Going on vacation. You know what’s even better? Breaking your foot while on vacation. That’s sarcasm, for those of you who cannot tell.
For the past few years, my family and I have braved the wilds of Florida as we visit in-laws and grandparents around the Christmas holiday. It is a nice break from the roller coaster ride of Midwest weather, and my wife likes beaches.
This year was no different. We headed down I-24 and I-75 in search of sand and sun. The first day was uneventful as we pretty much did nothing. Then, on the second day of our trip to the Sunshine state I stepped on the top part of my foot, heard a loud “Snap” and “Pop” and broke my foot. The doctor in the ER said to keep this stupid boot on for three months. Three months? Are you kidding me?
While I sit and ponder how I am going to traverse the vast expanse of Integrated Systems Europe let me relay what this has meant for me, and for you. This forced grounding has created something I apparently needed. Time. It has been very nice not to need to get up to check on every little thing.
While I do travel quite a bit for AVNation, when I am not on the road I work from the AVNation studios or home; depending on the day and the needs of the network. However, I rarely sit still for longer than 30 minutes at a time. This injury and the accoutremented boot and crutches has forced me to sit still. In sitting still, I have gotten more accomplished. Things I never thought I had time for because I had to check on this, that, or the other thing.
Take the time to sit still and get the things done that you need. That alarm going off can be handled by someone else. The garbage can take care of itself for now. Turn off the alarms and alert sounds on email, voicemail, and social media and get to them on your time. Get your stuff done by sitting down and doing it.
Once this little break heals I will hopefully remember the relief of sitting still.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Have a great week.
