Why the HDBaseT World Congress

This year the HDBaseT Alliance is holding a gathering of their members for three days in Barcelona, Spain to discuss the present state of AV over IP and where the technology is headed over the next few years.
With the recent report announcing AV over IP products would be gaining ground to the tune of 130%, this gathering of the world’s HDBaseT Alliance members seems prudent, if not psychic in its planning.
Over the course of three days, manufacturers will discuss the interoperability of pushing video, audio, and control over a network system. HDBaseT Alliance President, Ariel Sobelman, will give a “state of HDBaseT” address. Aurora Multimedia’s Paul Harris is speaking on the bringing together of the audio visual and network world. I will be hosting and moderating a panel of other journalists talking about what we have seen and covered in the field and what we are hearing back from integrators and customers.
One track that I would guess most audio visual professionals did not realize HDBaseT had is that of connectivity in automotive. This group will have their slate of training and discussion sessions. These include compression methods, security (which both teams will be discussed separately), USB integration, and multi-gig connectivity.
The gathering of so many manufacturers (HDBaseT Alliance has 180 members though the exact number of member companies attending is not known at this moment) is an excellent opportunity for a news organization to come and learn, interview, and get a sense of where these companies see the technology going in the short term.
The other aspect, for me, is the press panel. It was very humbling to be asked to moderate audio visual journalist colleagues. Getting the journalist’s perspective doesn’t happen very often. I’ve only been involved with one other conference (the PSNI Super Summit 2017) where we had a group of journalists addressing the audience. I’m excited to see what comes out of that discussion.
I’ll be reporting from here in Barcelona all week and then make it home in time for AVWeek on Friday. Follow our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to see pictures from the event here or just check back as I write a recap over the next three days.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
