TrueConf Adds Support for Open H.264

TrueConf has added support for Cisco’s Open H.264 video codec.

14 February 2018, Moscow Cisco open-sourced its H.264 codec implementation as a license-free alternative solution for WebRTC standard along with VP8 video codec. Open H.264 ensures compatibility between a wide range of video conferencing endpoints. TrueConf has supported Open H.264 codec in TrueConf Server version 4.3.9.

The codec maintains excellent video quality at a high compression rate without additional hardware requirements. Thanks to Open H.264 support, TrueConf optimized its multi-protocol gateway performance. In addition, with new codec you can run WebRTC-based web conferences across mobile devices and legacy video conferencing endpoints without the need for transcoding.

“We are happy that H.264 codec licensing problem has been solved. This is a very important step for the industry, as video conferencing companies are now able to use H.264 implementation at no charge,” Dmitry Odintsov, TrueConf CBDO, says. “With Open H.264 supported by different vendors, a completely new level of video conferencing compatibility can be achieved”.
