White paper Resi network security

FISHERS, Indiana – CEDIA has released its newest white paper targeted at home technology integration professionals: “Securing the Residential Network.” As homes and the systems within them become more connected, CEDIA has recognized a need to identify the evolving challenges hackers and other bad actors pose to in-home network security. Often referred to as “the backbone of the connected home,” networking technology is often cited as a leading area of growth in the residential tech industry.

“In the age of the Internet of Things, residential networks and connected devices have a greater and greater potential to be exploited,” said CEDIA Senior Director of Technology & Standards Walt Zerbe. “This white paper involves a comprehensive overview of a multitude of factors that integrators must consider when working to button up in-home networks from unwanted vulnerabilities, we also address terms and subjects that should be top of mind.”

“Securing the Residential Network” holistically examines the components that make up local area networks (LANs), the roles each play in security, and the possible weaknesses presented by current technologies. The white paper takes a deep dive into facets including: information security, grades or classes of LANs, network hardware and its use in securing the LAN, passwords and authentication, and network devices.

The new white paper is part of CEDIA’s ongoing efforts to keep members and the industry apprised of emerging trends and to offer learning opportunities to address those critical topics. In addition to this new resource, CEDIA will host three Advanced Networking Boot Camps this year at CEDIA’s brand new global headquarters just outside of Indianapolis. This year’s first Advanced Networking Boot Camp will take place April 1-3 with additional trainings offered July 15-17 and December 9-11.
