AMX NMX 2600 has AVoIP Options

On the show floor of InfoComm 2024 AMX showed off their new NMX-DEC-N2622S decoder. Typically known for using SVSi video encoding technology, AMX is expanding into Dante AV. The NMX-DEC can decode both SVSi as well as Dante AV signals.

The specs on the new NMX 2600 series is about what we’ve come to expect from any AV over IP product. The 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 4K 60 resolution support means you can put nearly any signal into the device. A nice addition is the “virtual network USB” means you can leverage KVM features and extend peripherals.

The NMX-DEC-N2622S also boasts enhanced security features, addressing growing concerns about network safety in the age of widespread video streaming. Security is a serious concern in government installations. But those security needs are also in healthcare, finance, and higher education. There’s also a companion wallplate that encodes the signal at the source.

One side note about the addition of Dante AV-A in an AMX device. Since the purchase of SVSi, Harman and AMX have leaned on this technology. The addition of Dante AV-A marks a new direction for the control and video distribution company. One that comes at a time when they are rolling out a new platform for control and configuration. Parent company, Samsung, has made a significant investment in the development of MUSE.

MUSE is Harman’s new automation and control platform. The thing about MUSE is that it is part of a holistic software package from Harman. These parts and pieces will work together with the software that runs BSS, Martin Lighting, and other Harman brands.

There was a time during the pandemic when Harman was not only quiet, they were absent on the industry stage. Now we know what they were up to. Harman and Samsung have made a serious commitment to R&D and are beginning to show off that investment. This is just a first for the company and we’ll see more as the months and years advance.
