L-Acoustics Recalls Speaker Mounts, Prioritizes Safety in Audio Industry

L-Acoustics has announced a recall of certain speaker mounting brackets following a reported incident in the field. The company is taking action to address potential safety issues with its A-U15i and A-U10i models. If you have L-Acoustics speakers, contact the dealer or integrator who installed the system for more information on replacement mounts.

In an official statement, L-Acoustics said, “At L-Acoustics, safety is our utmost priority.” This commitment was tested earlier this year when the company received a report of an “unusual A-U15i bracket failure,” described as “the first and only such incident since the launch of the bracket in 2020.”

L-Acoustics is known for high-performance speaker systems. Their systems can be heard in houses of worship, large concert venues, and on college campuses around the world.

The company’s response was immediate. “We immediately and proactively issued a safety notice to our global partner network, shipped kits to secure brackets in the field, and launched a thorough investigation,” L-Acoustics stated.

While the full details of the failure remain under scrutiny, L-Acoustics has initiated a series of actions to ensure user safety. The company has developed interim upgrade kits for both the A-U15i and A-U10i models, designed to be installed without removing the loudspeakers.

Additionally, the company suspended further shipments of both the A-U15i and A-U10i mounts to redesign the brackets. Part of the design process will be to “increase its safety rating.”

L-Acoustics plans to provide a long-term solution at no cost to its customers. “The new bracket will be shipped free of charge to affected L-Acoustics clients in the coming months to replace all A-U15i and A-U10i brackets currently used in the field,” the company stated.

As part of the recall, L-Acoustics are also offering compensation to their dealers, integrators, and partners for “time and effort in upgrading and replacing the mounts.”

L-Acoustics started shipping the A-U15i upgrade kits on May 27th, with A-U10i kits following on June 10th. The company will be contacting customers individually to coordinate shipments and urges users to install the upgrades as soon as possible upon receipt.

To incentivize quick action, L-Acoustics is offering a €100 ($108 USD) credit for each bracket confirmed as upgraded. Customers are required to report the serial numbers of upgraded brackets to the company’s customer service department.

L-Acoustics concluded by reaffirming their commitment to their customers and the industry: “We value the trust placed in us and remain committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and excellence in every L-Acoustics deployment globally.”

This recall highlights the importance of safety in the professional audio industry and demonstrates how companies can respond effectively to potential issues. As L-Acoustics works towards a permanent solution, the audio community watches closely, recognizing that the outcome of this recall could influence future safety protocols across the industry.
