CEDIA Expo 2024 and Commercial Integrator Expo 2024 showcased residential and commercial AV technology trends, highlighting the growing synergy between the two markets.
The exposition emphasized the importance of collaboration between the residential and commercial sectors, which is critical for industry growth. The event not only introduced new technology but also facilitated connections that promote cross-industry opportunities, education, and innovation.
CEDIA Expo, the platform where residential technology integration, designers and construction professionals connect, learn and engage, and Commercial Integrator Expo, a full-featured exposition and conference addressing the needs of today’s fixed installation audiovisual systems professionals and technology managers, uncovered major themes that dominated the show floor, including home theater, immersive audio, micro LED and lighting, and demonstrated the increasing synergy between residential and commercial technologies.

Barry Sonnenfeld delivered an inspiring and eye-opening keynote at CEDIA Expo 2024. Sonnenfeld, who has worked on popular films like When Harry Met Sally, The Addams Family, Men in Black, and more, emphasized the importance of service and education in the home theater industry. His keynote explored the role of home theaters in delivering an unparalleled cinematic experience, highlighting the contrast between movie production and playback environments. Sonnenfeld’s insights underscored the need for integrators to deliver exceptional installations and empower homeowners to fully understand and enjoy their systems.
The highly anticipated demo from Trinnov, Perlisten, Officina Acustica, Barco, madVR, Kaleidescape and Seymour-Screen Excellence achieved an impressive ±1 dB variance in seat-to-seat performance in its 18-seat theater on the show floor. Meanwhile, StormAudio, Seymour-Screen Excellence, Ascendo Immersive Audio, Christie Digital, Moovia and Lumagen showcased an impressive 13.12.10 system that immersed attendees and showcased the capabilities of today’s home theaters.
The latest advancements in projection from Epson, Sony, JVC and others kept the show floor buzzing with excitement. Epson introduced its dramatically revamped projector line, headlined by the new Q-Series models. Sony captivated audiences with the debut of its new home theater projectors, particularly the much-anticipated Bravia Projector 9. JVC unveiled its DLA-NZ900, featuring native 8K content, along with the debut of the DLA-NZ500, referred to as the world’s smallest native 4K projector.
Additionally, MicroLED remains a standout trend at both CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo, showcasing ongoing advancements that continue to impress. Regarded as the future of the large display market, MicroLED technology was prominently featured by numerous companies, including Absen, AOTO, Barco, Digital Projection, Just Video Walls, MaxHub, Planar, Quantum Media, Samsung, Sony, and Stealth Acoustics, among other exhibitors.
The lighting sector continued to shine, with Lutron debuting the Ketra D2 and Rania D2 architectural downlights. DMF Lighting unveiled Artafex, designed to meet the demands of the custom integration channel, featuring new DALI integrations to enhance luxury and versatility in projects. WAC/AiSPIRE Lighting showcased its Colorscaping Landscape Lights, demonstrating how outdoor lighting can transform properties with the right color temperatures. Finally, Crestron unveiled its All-in-One Home OS Digital Lighting Platform, enabling homeowners to fully control light color, hue, saturation, temperature, and intensity through the Crestron Home platform.
The networking and special events at the show, such as the CE Pro All-Star Band, CEDIA Awards, CE Pro Awards, CEDIA and Commercial Integrator Expo Conferences, Technology Designer’s Day of Discovery, and the Women in Consumer Technology Luncheon, provided attendees with opportunities to reconnect with peers while gaining insights into key industry issues and trends.
CEDIA Expo and Commercial Integrator Expo 2024 drew a total combined registration over 15,200 industry professionals. Attendees represented all 50 U.S. states and over 20 countries, emphasizing the global reach and appeal of the co-located expos. The events featured nearly 400 exhibitors with 31% of attendees visiting for the first time and 90 first-time exhibitors. A significant number of attendees indicated that they serve both residential and commercial markets, reflecting the growing crossover between residential and commercial industries, driving opportunities between the sectors.
