Appear’s NAB Launches of the X5 and VX Media Gateway Extend its Leadership in Live Media Production

Appear is set to make waves at NAB Show 2025 with the launch of two cutting-edge products: the X5 and VX Media Gateway. The X5 brings the power of Appear’s award-winning X Platform into a compact, cost-effective form, making high-quality live video contribution more accessible. With ultra-low latency, advanced compression, and seamless IP connectivity, it’s designed for broadcasters looking for more agile remote production solutions. Meanwhile, the VX Media Gateway marks a major step in Appear’s software-based media evolution, enabling broadcasters to simplify media transport across hybrid cloud and on-premise workflows.

These new additions highlight Appear’s commitment to innovation and customer-driven development. The X5 delivers top-tier performance in a smaller form factor, supporting industry standards like AVC, HEVC, SDI, and ST2110, while the VX Media Gateway provides a flexible, software-defined approach to media processing. As the industry moves toward IP-based and software-driven workflows, Appear is positioning itself as a leader in helping broadcasters scale, adapt, and future-proof their live production operations.

Appear, the global leader in live production technology, will make a major impact at NAB Show 2025 (Booth: W2042) through groundbreaking additions to its product portfolio. The highly anticipated X5extends the award-winning X Platform’s power and efficiency into a compact, cost-effective form factor, while the VX Media Gateway is a key product launch in Appear’s software-based media processing evolution.

The X5 is a game changer for operators handling high-value content at a lower scale per site, offering the same industry-renowned high-performance capabilities as the X10 and X20 in a more compact, ultra-portable chassis. Purpose-built for live production, remote contribution, and cloud-based workflows, the X5 delivers best-in-class compression, ultra-low latency, and seamless IP connectivity—making it the ideal solution for Tier 1 broadcasters seeking more agile remote production options, as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 operators looking for a cost-effective, high-quality media transport solution.

“The X5 redefines what’s possible in live video contribution,” said Andy Rayner, CTO at Appear. “It brings the power and flexibility of Appear’s X Platform to more customers than ever, offering an unmatched combination of high performance, efficiency, and future-ready IP workflows.”

With support for AVC & HEVC encoding and decoding, uncompressed workflows (SDI and ST2110), Appear’s hardware-accelerated SRT (aSRT) and advanced security features, the X5 makes the transition to IP-based live production easier and more cost-effective.

Appear is also launching the VX Media Gateway at NAB, the first major addition to its continually evolving VX software-based media processing platform. Designed to enable hybrid cloud/on-premise workflows, the VX Media Gateway simplifies seamless, scalable media transport for broadcasters and service providers embracing software-defined architectures.

“As the industry shifts toward flexible, software-driven workflows, VX is setting the standard for future-proofed media processing,” added Rayner. “VX gives our customers the ability to scale, adapt, and maximize efficiency across cloud and hardware environments.”

“We are the fastest-growing company in live media production; this momentum fuels our ability to push the boundaries of innovation,” said Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen, CEO at Appear. “Talking to customers and actively listening are incredibly important at Appear. The X5 and VX Media Gateway were both directly inspired by these conversations, which enable us to empower broadcasters with next-generation live media production solutions that meet their precise needs and business roadmaps.”

X Platform
The X Platform is a high-capacity, ultra-dense, low-latency modular media processing and gateway hardware platform. Offering high-speed video networking, robust IP security, and advanced compression, it supports broadcast-grade workflows for live video contribution, production, and distribution applications, maximizing performance and efficiency.

VX
VX is an open media technology software platform built for today’s and tomorrow’s broadcast workflows, offering agility and flexibility. It enables media service providers to rapidly develop next-generation production workflows, seamlessly integrating across diverse infrastructure and hardware solutions while ensuring the powerful performance, resilience, and ultra-low latency of modern hardware platforms.
