Strangers In The Lift

Research indicates that listening to this podcast will tell all about the latest stories surrounding the commercial side of the AV industry. Results may vary. We are joined to discuss these stories by AVSocial host Dawn Meade, Head of Audiovisual for WeWork Nick Nienaber, and Systems Support Engineer for Extron Chris Bach.

AVIXA has numbers of clear employment growth for the AV industry. And since futzes the numbers initially, it’s better if you look at AVIXA’s own wonderfully designed slides for the specific numbers. Are we really back on track? Does this growth reflect what’s going on in the industry? Looking at what this data means and what the future holds for commercial AV.

Next we look at a list of emerging technologies in the AV space that integrators and interior designers should be looking at. Extended reality solutions like augmented reality and virtual reality have been here for a while and some companies like Philips have made apps for realizing solutions in a space virtually, this also extends to things being installed like smart glass for privacy on toggle. What else should integrators be looking at in the emerging technology space for the office?

The currently largest experience center in the UK has officially opened, featuring over 200 AV companies’ products and solutions. This is interesting in many ways, especially since most companies and sometimes integrators prefer to keep their showrooms to themselves. To be fair, the five distributors inherent are owned by Midwich so in a way it is still one entity. Is this a precedent to be set for experience centers going forward? Could something like this happen in the US?
