Everything Is Catching On Fire

Sometimes the AV space moves like a bullet train, full of stories which need covering. For a brief moment it might be more like an accident that you can’t help but look away from. Joining us to stare into the wreckage and pull out the good stuff is Chief Strategist for KMB Communications Katye McGregor-Bennett, Software Development Manager for BlackWire Designs Seth Johnson and host of our own A State of Control as well as President of Control Concepts Steve Greenblatt.

This episode is all about CEDIA Expo 2021, the show that was supposed to be “return to normalcy” for many of its exhibitors being one of the first physical shows for the industry. That was such a big deal we had the announcement of people like Chris Neto and Tim Albright, those generally outside of the residential side of AV just because it was in person.

Unfortunately the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus has picked up and caused a number of exhibitors to pull back their plans to attend, starting with Savant last week. This has since extended to Snap One, Sonos, Samsung, and Legrand among others as of the recording on Monday. Is this too early to call, or will CEDIA make it to September? If the show continues, what’s the expected hit to attendance with these companies pulling out? What does this mean not only for CEDIA the company, but Emerald and the AV industry at large? Barring the factor that is Florida, will this have an impact on InfoComm and shows succeeding it? We deliberate the state of the show moving forward and the AV industry as a whole.
