AVWeek 642: AV Threat Security

The video version of this podcast can be found right here.

Gold Star

It’s time to check out the biggest stories in the AV industry. Joining us to look at the commercial side is Bren Walker from Kirkegaard, Fernando Mora from the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and Kelly Perkins of The Farm.

It’s that time for the best of/top things lists to show up, which means SCN has posted their annual Top 50 Systems Integrators list. As usual, it’s important to note that these lists are made only for the integrators that report their numbers. Even so, are there any outliers this year? Does this list make a difference outside of our own circles?

Audio manufacturer RØDE has acquired Mackie, further bolstering their audio solution offerings. Mackie has a history of loudspeakers with solid performance, being a mainstay in the live event space. They will still remain as Mackie, as this deal is a larger part of RØDE’s parent company The Freedman Group to round out their audio portfolio. We look at what this means for both companies and the industry moving forward.

The convergence of AV and IT has caused a litany of new security threats for solutions. As we’ve seen in the residential side, it’s gotten to the point that the US government is looking to bet involved with the Cyber Trust Mark program. The AV industry is on the proverbial frontlines trying to meet security challenges in their systems. What can we do? Discussing the state of security in product design and best practices.
