Can we make physical podcast media? Regardless of how you’re getting our news, we’re out here telling you about the biggest stories for the residential AV space. Joining us in discussing the news is Jeremy Glowacki from Residential Tech Today and Rachel Bradshaw from Caster Communications.

With all these lighting stories, you’d think there was some kind of large lighting-focused show that happened last week. And you’d be right! Lightapalooza was held in Phoenix, showcasing a host of solutions and education for the lighting space. Among those were WAC and AiSPIRE showing off the ‘Four Experiences of Light’ and DMF Lighting launching their Artafex line for custom integrators. Lighting is a space that is near and dear to our host’s heart. But some integrators still don’t handle lighting. What can we take from what’s been seen at Lightapalooza to show integrators on the fence that it’s something they should be adding to their portfolio?

Forbes takes a look at the habits of consumers with streaming services. According to their studies, 95% of Americans pay for more than one streaming service, but 90% are considering cancelling them due to costs. Streaming used to be a cheaper alternative to traditional terrestrial cable. But with rising costs of services and companies making their own “service+” and splitting the content, it’s become just as costly if not more to have multiple streaming services at once. And now that companies like Netflix are cracking down on password sharing, this bubble might burst. We discuss what this means for integrators, and if we just need to go back to physical media.

Finally we look at the Hotel Marcel, the very first “Zero Emissions” hotel. Part of the way this building has achieved sustainability standards is thanks to PowerShades’ PoE-based motorized shades that are installed in 165 guest rooms. How can integrators strive for sustainability within their projects? Is it worth it? We discuss what this means and where it could find purchase in other spaces.
