AVWeek 656: Enterprise AV

The video version of this podcast can be found here.

Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?

If you’ve made it this far, then you’ve survived those dread ides of March. And so have we, because we have a lot more important things to cover concerning the commercial side of the AV industry. Joining us this week to talk about the biggest stories are Joel Carroll from Mersive, Erin Maher-Moran from Johns Hopkins University (and host of our own EDTech podcast!) and Bill Fons from PTG.

A Webex call might have been intercepted by Russian spies, raising concerns about the security of the platform. German air forces were discussing the ongoing war in Ukraine, which was allegedly later. While they’re investigating the vailidity and how and if they got that information, we look at the AV side of thing. First, why was Germany using Webex in the first place? How can we properly secure AV installations to prevent sensitive data from getting into the wrong hands?

What’s this CEPro article doing in my Commercial AV show? Members of CEDIA went to DC early this month to represent the custom integration industry and discuss critical matters for our space. The two biggest topics were the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act and classifying integrator into the Standard Occupational Classification system. Legislation is a tricky business, to say the least. What should we expect from our trade organizations like AVIXA or CEDIA?

Samsung is partnering with Quest Technology Managemnt for digital signage as a service. Service models are not a new thing to the industry, but signage as a service is relatively unheard of. What does this mean for Samsung to get into it, and what can integrators bring to the table for a service like this?
