Notes:

  • InfoComm’s report on the America’s was released this week. According to the report, the audio video industry created $65 billion in revenue. The report projects the industry will grow to $83 billion by 2022. Our guests weigh in that this report is pretty accurate and we should certainly see growth over the next ten years. The report also calls out specific verticles such as digital signage as places for growth. Other potential verticals would be medical, education, and managed services.
  • AES (Audio Engineering Society) has elected a new group of officers. We ask the question to our panel, “do organizations like AES still make sense in today’s audio video industry.” Their answer, overwhelming yes. AES not only provides education but also direction and leadership in the study of audio.
  • InfoComm is partnering with Full Sail to offer AV education. This will allow students at Full Sail to take InfoComm classes and prep for the CTS (certified technology specialists) certification through InfoComm. Our panel discusses the importance of getting the audio video industry in front of potential AV workers while they are in school. “It’s really hard to get good people right now”, Chuck Wilson from NSCA stated. This program, and others like it, appear to be important to get potential employees introduced to the industry, provide them some training in the industry, and get them connected to potential employers when they graduate.
