AVWeek 456: Just That Easy

I Can Teach That

If you’ve been living under a rock, then honestly you’re probably doing social distancing correctly. But that still means you might not be getting the news you need pertaining to the commercial side of the AV. Luckily, joining us is Southtown AV President Heather Sidorowicz, AV professional Brad Grimes, and Product Management Leader for QSC Mike Brandes as we find out the latest stories coming out of the AV industry. You’re welcome.

Although InfoComm 2020 was cancelled in late March, it wasn’t long until the virtual event InfoComm Connected was announced (in fact, during our very own Learn From Home Virtual Summit from David Labuskes himself!) to be taking place from June 16-18 entirely online. It’s now open for registrations for both attendees and exhibitors. Obviously this will not be a 1:1 replacement for the real show, but what are the parameters for a successful outing? Looking at what we might be able to expect from the virtual conference.

Kari Martinez, a rising star in the industry (and member of SCN’s The Nine) recently held a research initiative in conjunction with the Women in AV association and have published the results of that survey regarding the demographics of women working in AV. Taking a look at the findings and the results that were surprising, and what the we can do as a whole to foster diversity within our industry.

Zoom, the video platform that nearly everyone is using, including our very own show, is taking strides in their initiative for more security in meetings. They recently reported they have hit a milestone in that plan by acquiring message company Keybase, with the goal in mind for Zoom to become a truly private and secure video conferencing software. Is that really feasible?
