Red Wire, Blue Wire

It’s the week of Thankgiving, which means the end of the semester is nearly upon us. So today let’s gather around the virtual table with a host of experts in the higher education field. This includes AV Specialist for Stockton University James King, Assistant Director of Multimedia Services for Drexel University Rob Rasberry, Director of AV Services for the University of Arkansas Ernie Bailey and Director of Client Services for Bates College Scott Tiner.

Over at Joe Way’s own Higher Ed AV magazine, James writes about the language of troubleshooting and processing to understand how to convey your message to technicians and faculty when things go awry. We discuss some anecdotes where these issues come up, and what we can do to bridge this gap between the help desk and faculty.

Next we discuss the future of remote learning and hybrid workspaces in higher education post-COVID. We are currently still in the midst of this pandemic, and have heard the terms ‘new normal’ and ‘pivot’ more than we can take. But plenty of spaces, higher education included, have made the changes to their spaces to accomodate remote learning. What will happen to this tech after we are done? Is it back to normal, or is this the foot in the door for a hybridized system of learning and educating?
