Take The Ego Out

Some might call this a sudden guest departure, we’d like to think of it more as a deeper conversation as we dive into the latest news surrounding the residential side of the AV industry. Joining us to discuss these stories is Executive Editor for Residential Tech Today Jeremy Glowacki, who also hosts his own one-on-one podcast series. Is this just curbing off of that style? Sure, let’s go with that!

It was announced just last week that Crestron’s CEO & President Randy Klein would be stepping down and retiring. In his place will be the current Chairman and COO Daniel Feldstein, who is also the son of Crestron Founder George Feldstein. We look back at Crestron’s journey from Randy’s move to CEO and what might be in store for the company and our industry as a whole down the line.

CEDIA Expo 2021 is happening in person in Indianapolis September 1-3. The show will be featuring a brand new programming venue on the show floor called the Innovation Hub. As the name would imply, it is a space for case studies that reveal new and innovative solutions for AV. The categories include Outdoor Living, Work From Home, Smart Water and much more. An emerging trends kind of feature isn’t entirely new for the show, but showcasing them in this case study manner is an interesting twist. Will it be enough to make integrators look at some avenues in a different light? Could this be the “Center Stage” of CEDIA Expo? Looking at the impact of this feature as we move ever closer to CEDIA Expo 2021.

Our last story comes from Residential Tech Today discussing the changing expectations of homeowners in the advent of smart home appliances. As these solutions become more ubiquitous, when some breaks down the question become how do you get it fixed, how quickly can that happen, and who can actually fix it? Where does the jurisdiction fall in line with certain solutions like HVAC and dishwashers? Looking at the specialty spots within the smart home space and what falls to the integrator.
