ResiWeek 358: Demand Response

That Lucky Old Sun

We like to always consider ResiWeek a high-energy show, but this one is definitely going to have a lot of energy to it. Joining us to look at the latest news from the residential side of the AV industry is Partner for bluesalve Avi Rosesnthal and Senior Project Manager for Premiere SAV Ian Bryant.

Savant and Sunnova are teaming up to create smart power solutions for the home. Their system monitors and controls energy from the electrical grid, as well as home solar systems and generators. The power system is designed with different personalized scenes to prepare for any scenario and create efficient power usage. Is this the path that makes solar a viable vertical for integrators?

Well, it seems that Parks Associates believes so. According to analyst Chris White, 44% of homeowners are already engaged with some sort of energy management solution. Some of this energy interest comes from the uptick of electric vehicles on the road, and therefore requiring places to charge up. Where do integrators fit into this conversation? Are we an arbiter of knowledge, or do we even have a seat at the table?

Josh.ai is launching an Android app built specifically for the AVA universal remote. With these systems in tandem, the universal remote will deliver the same contextual awareness present in Josh.ai systems. Does this make Josh.ai closer to a traditional integration firm? And while we’re at it, are universal remotes still going to be a thing in this day and age?
