ResiWeek 381: Half-Baked AV

Integrator Madness

Is Victoria Day a real holiday? Why are Canadian provinces celebrating members of British royal families? These questions won’t be answered, because we’re more about the news and stories of the residential side of the AV industry. However, those previous questions may indicate why Rich Fregosa is filling in for our usual northern host. This week we are joined by Director of Training for Vanco Frank Santos, Owner of Home Theater Advisors Mark Feinberg and President of Cogent360 Dave Chace.

Brink’s Home Security parent Monitronics files for chapter 11 bankruptcy. To be fair, this is not the first time that this has occurred, as back in 2019 they also filed for bankruptcy to refinance $985 million in debt. But as we bring up an oncoming recession nearly every week, we have to ask if this is going to be a recurring story for other businesses, or just a bump in the road?

Mark Cichowski is introducing a new event for the custom installation space named the Home Tech Expo. It’s not like this is coming from nothing, Mark is known as the creator of the Technology & Business Summits that now operate as the CEDIA Tech Summits. However, this show looks to be a consumer-facing event for the CI market and hopes to be a different show than the ones that already exist. Is there a space for this in the midst of all the other shows and events in AV?

According to a report by Quest Diagonstics, the general U.S. workforce has had its highest level of positive tests for marijuana usage. In construction alone, that number is 4.6% of all employees who tested positive for the substance. While many state in the US have legalized marijuana usage, it’s still a sticky subject to discuss. So much to the point we could probably devote an entire show, but instead we’ll just focus on our channel and what the changing landscape looks like in the AV space.
